Call Parking Feature of PBX

Call parking is a feature available through Black Cloud Networks hosted PBX, also known as private branch exchange. Call parking allows a person to put an active call on hold and then retrieve the same call from a different phone number or extension. Call parking through Black Cloud Networks can be ‘parked’ by either that calling or answering party as long as their phone is capable and supports the call parking feature. If the party does not have the call parking feature, it will not affect the other party and seem as if they are on hold momentarily.

Example of Call Parking

  • PBX extension 111 calls PBX extension 222.
  • Extension 222 picks the call, dials 7n where n is any digit used for “parking” the call. Extension 111 hears a “call hold” tone.
  • Now, another extension 333 can dial 77n and “pick the call”, it means extension 333 and extension 111 will be now connected.

Many hosted PBX sends the call back to the original extension that put the call on ‘park’ by calling the extension again if the parked call is not picked up or activated by an extension again. In the example above, if extension 333 does not pick up the parked call after a certain time, extension 222 will ring again and it will be connected to extension 111. The call parking procedure varies from provider to provider, and depending on which VoIP phone you are using, but the basic call parking principles remain the same, only the key or sequence of keys pressed may vary when activating and using the call parking features.

Convenience From Call Parking

Almost all modern PBX and VoIP phones come with a call parking feature, which is great for small and medium sized business owners who are juggling multiple responsibilities and tasks throughout the day. If you are moving from place to place, throughout the office or warehouse, call parking is a great feature for you. Being able to park the call in your office, and pick up from your other office or storage area and continue the conversation with ease instead of asking to call the person back is a great convenience.

Almost all modern PBX systems come with this feature. It is useful when a person needs to move from one place to another during a call in a office premise. In that case, instead of asking Call parking is also very convenient for busy hotels and restaurants with multiple numbers and sections. If someone calls the restaurants main line, and wishes to speak to the bar, call parking will transfer the caller to that section. Call parking is significantly better than a simple call transfer for the reason that the recipient may not be at their desk or area, if this is the case, the parked call will be returned to the original extension and dealt with accordingly.
